The Civilian Complaint Review Board issued a brief report May 9 saying that video from body cameras worn by police officers can play a substantial role in successfully investigating complaints against officers.
“Video can be the difference between being able to determine what happened in a complaint under investigation,” said the board’s chair, Maya Wiley. “This analysis primarily highlights CCTV and witness video, but it does suggest how body-worn-camera footage can potentially strengthen police accountability and transparency, while also supporting officers who behave lawfully.”
