Following six months of academy training, the Department of Correction welcomed 382 new Correction Officers to its ranks during a July 31 graduation ceremony at the Christian Cultural Center in East New York. ‘The road to get here is a difficult one. The Academy is not easy, nor is it meant to be,’ DOC Commissioner Cynthia Brann told them. ‘It is meant to prepare you to do the most difficult, often misunderstood and unsung job in law enforcement.’ Pictured are Correction Officers Benevolent Association President Elias Husamudeen, at podium, Louis Wagner, the class valedictorian, center left, and Joseph Winkler, its salutatorian.
