Although former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s entry into the Democratic presidential primaries had been expected to hurt the politically moderate top contenders, two polls released Nov. 26 and 27 indicated that former Vice President Joe Biden and South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg actually gained ground on the more-progressive party hopefuls.
The fall-off in support for Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren suggested that Mr. Bloomberg’s candidacy was less of a factor than her inability during the Nov. 20 Democratic debate to ease voters’ concerns about the impact of her Medicare for All proposal. The Quinnipiac University poll released on Nov. 26 showed Ms. Warren’s support had been cut in half—from 28 percent to 14 percent—from the previous Quinnipiac survey released Oct. 24.
