AFT Endorsement of Shuler Viewed As Possible Long-Term Position

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten Aug. 16 announced that the union was supporting Liz Shuler to fill out the remainder of the late Richard Trumka's term as AFL-CIO president.

Ms. Shuler, who has served as secretary-treasurer of the giant union federation since she was elected on a ticket with Mr. Trumka in 2009, had assumed his role on an acting basis following his death from a heart attack Aug. 5. The term runs into next June, when an election will be held during the AFL-CIO convention.
