The Queens District Attorney's Office and defense lawyers successfully petitioned a judge Nov. 8 to vacate the convictions of dozens of people implicated by NYPD Detectives who themselves later faced serious criminal charges.
The motion by the DA's office came six months after a coalition of lawyers from the Legal Aid Society and wrongful-conviction organizations wrote DA Melinda Katz asking her to review the criminal cases of defendants who were implicated after “essential” participation by 20 NYPD officers convicted of crimes and two others who engaged in serious misconduct while on duty.
