The Washington, D.C., Police Union is suing the city in a bid to block recent legislation that took away the union’s right to bargain with management regarding discipline of officers, Jurist reported this week.

According to the city’s Comprehensive Merit Personnel Act, all of D.C.'s municipal employees retained the right to negotiate discipline matters with management. The new law stripped just the Police Union of that right, the publication reported.

The union represents about 3,600 Officers, Sergeants, Detectives, Investigators and Sergeant Detectives.
