Letters to Editor

Hutchinson a hero

To the Editor: Donald Trump, now the nation’s Fabricator-In-Chief, has called the courageous January 6th Committee witness Cassidy Hutchinson, a liar and a girl with mental problems.

The criminal mind

To the Editor: An old adage goes “to a hammer, everything is a nail.” The fourth and fifth public hearings of the January 6th Committee revealed a new twist on this adage — to a criminal, everyone is  crooked.

Fear and loathing

To the Editor: The January 6th Committee hearings have exposed just how corrupt and treasonous are Donald Trump and his minions.

Credit where due, but …

To the Editor: I'll give Joseph Cannisi credit for one thing in his letter "Two parties, ex parte" (June 24th Chief). Unlike in 2017 (not 2016), he did not attribute any views to me that were opposite positions I had actually taken.

Not holding our breaths

To the Editor: Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), a member of the committee on the Anti-Gun Violence Bill, said that in spite of the sudden reluctance of GOP members to agree to the terms of the bill, he believes the bill will pass.

A COLA for pensioners

To the Editor: Back in September 1999, Chapter 390 of the Laws of 1998, and later action by the City Council, provided a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) to be paid to certain pensioners of the NYC Employees Retirement System in two stages ...

An obvious problem

To the Editor: Joseph Cannisi's "The ever-slippery slope" letter (June 17) about a U.S. Supreme Court decision that, voted for by Republican judges, expanded gun owners' rights with a dubious interpretation of the Second Amendment, was right on the mark.

Two parties, ex parte

To the Editor: A frequent Chief contributor from my side of the aisle took issue with my letter on de facto American cartels by claiming that President Biden shares fault because “he could also have the Justice Department file actions to break up anti-competitive combines.”

Biden could do more

To the Editor: Joseph Cannisi's June 3rd letter, "Cartels wrecking havoc," tells part of the story. The February 22nd "Hightower Lowdown" goes into more detail.

The ever-slippery slope

To the Editor: For roughly the first 200 years of our country’s existence, the courts (rightly) interpreted the second Amendment in the context of “a well-regulated militia.”

The Orange pretender

To the Editor: In this important election year, Republicans are quick to point out that Donald Trump is not on the ballot. While that may be true, his shadow looms large over GOP candidates.

Mr. Spock's nightmares

To the Editor: The May 27th issue has numerous examples that the war against logic continues. The first two are featured in excellent articles by Crystal Lewis.

Democracy in peril

To the Editor: The mass murder of schoolchildren in Uvalde, Texas, raises the usual questions about whether right-wing political leaders will ever make a serious attempt to control the gun menace.

Pay fair, MTA

To the Editor: On May 15, city transit workers received contractual wage increases, but truth be told we are victims of wage stagnation. Instead of getting hazard pay, transit workers got wages that fell behind inflation.

Cartels wreaking havoc

To the Editor: Toilet paper, auto microchips, lumber, meat, gasoline and now baby formula. Since March 2020, we have seen supply issues (and skyrocketing prices) for all these consumer products.

GOP tilt is out of balance

To the Editor: Former first lady Rosalyn Carter famously once said of the man who replaced her husband “I think he makes us comfortable with our prejudices.”

Mayor fails on Covid leadership

To the Editor: Mayor Adams has done a disservice to New Yorkers with his wrongheaded response to the recent Covid surge.

To the Editor:   Only a short time into the gubernatorial primary season, I already find myself weary of the ubiquitous campaign ads. One constant theme coming from those who wish to …

‘Lettin ‘em loose’ too often

To the Editor: Mayor Eric Adams is outraged about the failure to effectively prosecute gun crimes and put  criminals in jail. He knows it’s not primarily the fault of the police, but …

Unions Must Prioritize

To the Editor:   Most new hires with the city of New York are required to live within the five boroughs when starting a new position. However, new hires struggle to find housing that is …

A serious question

To the Editor:   The more we learn about the attempted coup on Jan. 6, 2021, the more apparent it becomes that numerous GOP legislators were actively involved in this horrific event.  …

Deliver better value

Gubernatorial candidates Tom Suozzi and Lee Zeldin, joined fellow members of Congress ... in signing a Jan. 28 letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services praising "high-quality, patient-centered" Medicare Advantage (MAP) plans. These representatives wrote that MAPs "consistently deliver better care and value."

Not resting easy

To the Editor:   “Woke”: the Hard Right’s newest four-letter word. You may have noticed that I didn’t say right-leaning, Conservatives or Republicans. Those designations no longer exist; …

Medicare disadvantage?

To the Editor:  Surprise: The inspector general’s Office for the Department of Health and Human Services did a study and found that the Medicare Advantage Plan offered to NYC retirees was a …

Adams playing hide and seek with his taxes

To the Editor: Mayor Eric Adams appears to be playing the "Trump game" with his taxes. That is, rather than transparency on his finances, he has chosen to be opaque and evasive, and then delay and …
