“I’ve always been interested in nursing, even as a little girl. My grandparents would buy me stethoscopes,” said Ruth Caballero, a visiting nurse who was honored by the Municipal Credit Union Oct. 3.
After working at Brooklyn’s Methodist Hospital, Caballero became interested in home care when she realized that patients who had home nurses didn’t come back to the hospital. She began working at the Visiting Nurse Service of New York nearly two decades ago, and currently cares for medical surgery patients in Washington Heights.
