Union leaders in New York State want to raise taxes on the wealthy to help make up a severe fiscal shortfall and avoid layoffs in health care and education, the Times Union reported.
The heads of 1199SEIU, the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), the Professional Employees Federation and others, who collectively represent 1.5 million workers, called on lawmakers to institute “modest” tax increases on wealthy New Yorkers to offset massive revenue losses largely attributable to the virus.
