To the editor:

Democratic leaders in Congress and in state and city leadership positions often complain that the Democratic Party has no strong central message(s) that will bring voters together to stop Trump and return the House of Representatives to the Democrats in 2026.

What Democratic leaders and voters forget or ignore is that Trump's power comes from the fact that the Trump Republican Party is a cult more than a political party. If 30 percent of more Republican voters are in the Trump cult, very few will leave even when their own well-being is threatened or damaged. Their faith in Trump will override their rationality and common sense.

The Trump cult, like almost all cults, replaces traditional religion, morality and compassion for others with loyalty and obedience to the cult’s rules, articles of faith and unique philosophies.   The cult’s articles of faith can be significantly different from and in conflict with established norms and principles.

It’s probably a good idea to try to identify members of the Trump cult and not waste our time trying to convert them. Our focus should be on communicating with fair-minded and honest people who don’t fall for the lies of a charismatic and dishonest leader who commands absolute authority and punishes disloyalty.

The claim that the Trump Republican Party is a cult is utterly absurd. As the weeks pass, your letters become increasingly ridiculous!
