Plaudits on FDNY, NYPD pension action

Posted

To the editor:

With curiously little fanfare and notice, the Police Benevolent Association and the Uniformed Firefighters Association, the unions that represent NYC police officers and firefighters, have (re)secured 20-year retirement benefits for their members.

This puts NYPD and FDNY Tier 3 members pack on par with their fellow Tier 2 members and is a redressment of an embarrassing “fix” put in place in the wake of the financial crisis that saw then-Governor Paterson reduce pension benefits for police officers and firefighters.

Of course, at the time this was lauded by the upstanding glitterati whose swollen accounts and free-money fantasies helped cause the crisis that very nearly brought the entire world to financial ruin and who were then demanding (and did receive) trillions of dollars in government subsidies so their money train could stay solvent.

These billionaire-funded places like the Manhattan Institute and the Citizens Budget Commission whose efforts to ensure “good government” never had a sour note to share about the policies that led to the crisis as long as their deregulated nirvana kept their cosmopolitan whims fully funded and unchallenged.

So, well-earned kudos to the PBA and the UFA for turning the clock back and holding an ever-wavering line for the middle class. But make no mistake, those same people and their ideological dreck are still out there planning for and planning their next crisis.

    Josh,

Excellent that you brought this up. A lot of people either don't know or are misinformed. The glitterati are practitioners of verisimilitude.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this legislation ONLY applies to Tier 3 police officers and NOT Tier 3 firefighters…
