I was intrigued by the title of Vincent Scala’s column “Forget democracy, the nation is not even a republic” (The Chief, June 17) After reading it, I was in awe. The piece is perhaps the most insightful, concise and accurate assessment of the root cause behind the failures now plaguing the American system of governance.
Proof of those failures was delivered this past week when a handful of un-elected Supreme Court justices struck down two laws that “we the people” have supported for 50 and 100 years, respectively — a women’s right to an abortion (Roe v Wade) and a state’s right to protect its citizenry (concealed carry in New York).
