The GOP and Voting Rights

President Biden took a good deal of heat recently when he said in a speech in Georgia that Republican Members of Congress who were blocking bills to reaffirm voting rights for Americans were placing themselves in the company of arch-segregationists like former Alabama Governor and presidential candidate George Wallace, civil-rights era Birmingham Police Chief Bull Connor and Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy during the Civil War.
