Union workers were pulled from the job at the Chevron Corp. oil refinery in Richmond, Calif., earlier this week just hours before the start of the strike at the gasoline producing plant in decades.
The more than 500 United Steelworkers members were replaced by non-union workers. They joined Steelworkers at 12 Shell refineries nationwide who are also on strike.
