The New York state Department of Health has projected a shortage of nearly 40,000 nurses across the state by 2030. To address the worsening staffing crisis among health-care workers, Governor Kathy Hochul last week announced a program that provides bonuses worth up to $3,000 for health-care employees.
The New York State Health Care and Mental Hygiene Worker Bonus Program will award bonuses to health-care workers who earn less than $125,000 and work for providers participating in the Medicaid program. Employees must work at least 20 hours a week for six months consecutively between Oct. 1, 2021 and March 31, 2024.
