Thousands of workers will receive $2.6 million in restitution after five large employers, including Starbucks, were found to have violated the city’s paid sick and fair workweek laws, in addition to other labor law violations, the Adams administration announced Monday.
The city’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection found that a Burlington Coat Factory location in the Bronx failed to provide workers with their schedules at least 72 hours in advance, a violation of the Fair Workweek Law. The company also did not bar on-call scheduling and added hours onto workers’ schedules without asking them.
