PSC, UUP Call on State Assembly to Peg College Funding to Inflation Rate

The Professional Staff Congress and United University Professions, which represent the majority of employees in the city and state university systems, urged the state Assembly Committee on Higher Education Dec. 5 to support a bill that Governor Cuomo has vetoed twice aimed at fully funding the public colleges.

Though the level of funding received from the previous year at CUNY and SUNY is protected by the Maintenance of Effort (MOE) law, an enhanced version would cover inflationary costs such as rent and electricity, salary increases, and the difference between the maximum Tuition Assistance Program grant amount and tuition (known as the “TAP gap”).
