PSC Goes to Wall Street to Make Its Case for Significant Pay Hikes

“There is some taste in this organization for militant activity,” said Luke Elliott-Negri, a member of the Professional Staff Congress’s executive committee, at a Sept. 27 rally to demand a fair contract.

About 500 members of the union representing employees at the City University of New York gathered in front of the Stock Exchange and marched to the nearby investment-banking offices of William C. Thompson Jr., the Chairman of CUNY’s Board of Trustees. The union’s pact expired last November, and though its bargaining team has had what were called productive sessions with CUNY management, there hasn’t been an economic offer yet.
