To the editor:
If city workers are unhappy with the results from the pension systems (“Unions, city pension board failing workers’ moral call,” The Chief, Aug. 16), perhaps they should address their concerns and complaints directly to Hamas leadership since they started the war and are the cause of the terrible suffering of the Palestinian people.
As for Israel committing genocide, there is only one side in this conflict advocating genocide. That would be Hamas. It is written in their charter. Maybe the city workers should read it sometime. It might open their eyes.
Finally, as for their protests and picketing, such as the one they held in April, where they chanted slogans like "From the river to the sea,” I wonder how many of them could name from what river to which sea they refer to.

No one supports Hamas. They are brutal terrorists who prey on everyone, including innocent Palestinians. But Israel has behaved abominably to the October 7th attacks. Indiscriminately bombing residential buildings and leveling entire cities to kill the few terrorists hiding among civilians is deplorable. Another horror is allowing gangs of armed settlers to burn Palestinian olive groves and steal their land in the West Bank. Neither side has clean hands. Withholding U.S. support, via investment or otherwise, might change Israel's approach and finally create a Palestinian State.
Then Palestinians can choose their own path. They can either be a peaceful neighbor or a warring nation. Right now, they have no other choice other than to follow the commands of whoever it is that currently holds a gun to their heads.

I agree with everything @reenjoe wrote but I felt compelled to comment on your last sentence which is unnecessarily demeaning and condescending. This is at the heart of why there's so much discourse on so many issues: gratuitous insults that don't add anything to the discussion and only create distraction and anger. Express your point of view, but, if you want to be heard you'll need to resist the impulse to insult.
