Non-union workers earned 81 cents for every union-worker dollar paid

While union membership has declined in recent decades, union wages have stayed solid, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

Just over 20 percent of employed Americans belonged to unions in 1983, roughly twice the 10.3 percent who were members of unions in 2019, according to BLS statistics cited by CNBC. That portion increased a half-percentage point last year, to 10.8 percent.
