Longshoremen’s contract expiring

Negotiations on a new contract covering more than 22,000 workers at ports along the West Coast are set to begin, with the circulation of the nation’s supply of goods in the balance.

The current agreement with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union expires at the end of June and some analysts suggest that a labor stoppage could further bottleneck the sea of ships floating in the Pacific awaiting to dock and offload their cargo.
