The Transport Workers Union Local 100 presidential election is almost a year off, but if a recent race for an executive-board seat is any indication, that campaign will prompt an intense debate on President Tony Utano's performance during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic that killed over 90 union members.
Earlier this month, Train Conductor John Ferretti, a critic of Mr. Utano, running under the Local 100 Fightback Coalition banner, won a special election for a board seat which became vacant following the COVID-linked death of Tower Operator Darryl K. Sweeney, 58, in April.
