Budget cuts force teachers to find other schools

With city public schools facing budget cuts of $215 million, educators have begun receiving notices that they will be “excessed” and must find jobs at another school come fall.

Since the start of the pandemic, the city public school system has lost 83,000 students, with enrollment currently standing at 920,000 students. Under former Mayor Bill de Blasio, federal coronavirus stimulus funding helped maintain funding at schools that saw significant declines in their population of students.
