Aaron Judge has had an amazing, Hall-of-Fame kind of year. But comparing him to Babe Ruth is unfair to the Babe.
First, Babe’s pitching record over five seasons was 94-46 with a 2.28 ERA. One of his wins was a 1-0 shutout over Walter Johnson, when both went 13 innings.
Second, could Aaron Judge hit 60 or more home runs if he lived like the Babe? That is, if his diet was hot dogs, porterhouse steak, six eggs and potatoes, washed down with a quart of bourbon and ginger ale? (Calorie estimate: 6,000 a day.) And, according to his roommate, Jimmie Reese, Babe had the company of a bevy of chorus girls, even on game days.
Aaron Judge will be a Hall-of-Famer; Babe Ruth was a force of nature, actually a freak of nature.

Amen! There's a number of other reasons why I think Babe Ruth is the greatest baseball player of all-time. But I understand why Gorman did not mention them all. He didn't want to write too long of a letter.
