Graduate student workers from universities across the nation have joined other industries in organizing their labor force.
Graduate students workers who are already unionized have led work-stopping strikes at institutions such as Columbia University, Harvard University and at public universities in the California state system over the last few years. Low pay has been cited around the country as the most common reason for organizing.
