De Blasio's Inner Voice Tunes Out Good Sense

Even as Mayor de Blasio warned Sept. 15 that the time was drawing near when he would have no choice but to send out 22,000 layoff notices unless he got outside help from Albany or—less likely at the moment—Washington, union leaders weren't exactly feeling the urgency.

That was obvious from Municipal Labor Committee Chairman Harry Nespoli telling this newspaper's Bob Hennelly prior to that press conference that Mr. de Blasio should hold off on any move toward layoffs until after the presidential election.
