Criminal behavior

To the editor:

Every time I think that MAGA Republicans have reached rock bottom, they remind me that there is no bottom, no low to which they will not sink.

The latest example is Ron DeSantis, a MAGA superstar. In case you missed it, the Florida governor sent a plane load of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Given similar actions by GOP Governors Doug Ducey (Arizona) and Greg Abbott (Texas), this would not seem to be out of keeping with Republican behavior.

However, DeSantis’ “shipment” was quite different. To begin with, the migrants in question walked the roughly 3,000 miles from Venezuela to the U.S. to escape the Communist Maduro regime. Secondly, they were not in Florida, but in San Antonio, Texas.

In what can only be described as a political PR stunt, DeSantis “imported” the migrants. He sent a plane, paid for by taxpayers, from Florida to Texas and back again, with the sole purpose of “deporting” the migrants to Massachusetts.

Making matters worse, it seems that DeSantis obtained the migrants’ consent, which U.S. law requires, via deception by telling the group that they were being sent to Boston where housing and jobs awaited them.

What DeSantis did — using fraud to obtain the services of another person — in essence meets the legal definition of human trafficking. Just another crime we can now add to the growing list of wrongdoings by GOP officials.

The federal government has jurisdiction over immigration, the Florida Governor does not. President Biden moves migrants to places where federal authorities have resources. DeSantis moved them where he KNEW there were no resources. That is what I have to say "about that move".

BTW, when you resort the name calling - "china joe" - no one takes you seriously.
