Council's De La Rosa wants to make it easier for workers to organize

Expansion of ‘just cause’ legislation on deck

Ahead of testimony from workers and organizers at a hearing of the City Council’s Committee on Civil Service and Labor last week, committee Chair Carmen De La Rosa said she wanted to find out how best to ensure that unionizing workers in the city are protected and freely allowed to organize.  

De La Rosa said she wanted to explore “new ways to provide support for workers organizing new unions and joining established ones." And, she added, she was seeking suggestions from workers on “how the city can better educate employers about their obligations under workers' rights laws and explore whether stronger enforcement of labor laws is needed.”
