Council speaker rebukes Adams for vetoing pay raises for delivery workers

In a blistering response to Mayor Eric Adams’ vetoes of City Council bills that would have boosted the pay and protections of delivery workers, Council Speaker Adrienne Adams accused the mayor of turning his back on the working class and cozying up to corporate interests.

The mayor on Wednesday vetoed legislation passed by the Council last month that would have required grocery-delivery companies such as Instacart to pay their contracted workers at least $21.44 an hour before tips — as of April, the same rate app-based restaurant-delivery workers are paid.
