Vacancies among city's public-safety titles remain high

Council probes retention woes within workforce

Although the vacancy rate among the city municipal workforce has shrunk significantly since the height of the Covid pandemic, certain agencies and titles are struggling to recruit and retain employees.

Municipal agencies currently have a 5.7-percent vacancy rate, down from a high of 8.4 percent in November 2021. But members of the City Council, workers and union leaders raised concerns about staffing shortages affecting specific titles during a Council hearing held Monday.
