To the editor:
Donald Trump promised to change the way government works. True to his word, he forwarded cabinet nominees that certainly represent a departure from convention. To oversee Homeland Security and FEMA, Kristi Noem, a woman so callous she personally killed the family dog, a 14-month old puppy, because it was difficult to train. To safeguard federal land as secretary of the interior, Doug Burgum, a billionaire with deep ties to the oil industry. To head the EPA, climate change denier and deregulation advocate Lee Zeldin. For director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, a suspected Russian agent. To oversee public health, anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist RFK Jr. and snake-oil salesman Dr. Mehmet Oz. And to lead our nation’s military, Pete Hegseth, a Fox News talking head and accused sex offender.
With apologies to Stephen Sondheim:
Don’t you love farce? / Trump’s fault, I think / He thought that we’d want what he wants / Sorry, they stink / But where are the clowns / Send in the clowns / Don’t bother they’re here.
