To the editor:
As a veteran I'm disturbed by what Donald Trump said about the Medal of Honor and the recipients. Unfortunately, most recipients are awarded posthumously. I also recall what he said about John McCain, that the late Arizona senator was no war hero “because he was captured.”
Although I'm not happy with his remarks, I will not vote for Kamala Harris. For me, it's about the economy, the border, inflation, crime, law and order. The Democrat Party is a mendacious party. To me, that party’s officials practice legerdemain and purloining and are outright deleterious. They believe they are above the "common man." A patrician class, if you will, that claims they are for the penurious and middle class, when indeed they are not. Kamala Harris is part of the Biden administration, so therefore she is culpable.
She as well as Obama, Pelosi, the Clintons and Schumer "voluntold" Biden he needs to step aside. Reluctantly, he did as he was told.
In my humble opinion, if she is elected, I believe we will go down a notch or two here in the United States as well as the world.

Mr. Genovese, notwithstanding your reasons for finding excuses for Trump whom many of us veterans consider a cowardly traitor, I’ll say this: once a person joins the Trump cult, he will always find reasons to excuse his misconduct - which is now criminal.

in November, there is only one of two people who have ANY shot at being elected. Withholding your vote from one is tantamount to casting your vote for the other. So if you don't want Trump you sure as heck better vote for Harris no matter how much you may disagree with the ticket.
I keep hearing this hair splitting ridiculous reasoning for withholding a vote for a perceived lesser of two evils (in anyone's opinion, but usually without merit) and the through logic of that thinking just never stands up to scrutiny.
In other words, cutting off your nose to spite your face.

So you are a veteran. Thank you for your service. But be reminded of the political photo op Trump and his staff did at Arlington Cemetery. It is illegal and disgraceful that he did this. He is the one who called veterans "suckers and losers". Hopefully, he will be the "sucker and loser" after he is not elected. Harris//Walz is the better choice for our country. Trump is out for himself and wants to dismiss the federal investigations against him. He is also a convicted felon and a grifter.

Mr. Genovese, I respect your positions (the economy, border, inflation, crime, law and order) regarding your reluctance to vote for Kamala Harris. However, I believe some information specifically directed at those issues might cause you to reconsider.
As our economy, the U.S. is the envy of the world. We have the highest Gross Domestic Product (nearly $29 trillion) in the world, higher than the combined GDP of next 3 countries (China, Germany & Japan). The U.S. has the highest GDP per capita ($85,370 per American) of any nation among the top 10 world economies and all other nations in the G20.
In the past 10+ years the GOP has twice killed border deals. In 2013, after 4 Dem and 4 Rep Senators crafted a comprehensive immigration bill, Tea Party Reps killed it in the House. This year Biden (and Harris by extension) worked with 3 Senators - a Dem, a Rep and an Independent - to address the border and Trump killed it.
As for inflation, every western Democracy saw the same or higher levels due to Covid-related supply chain problems.
Finally, crime, law and order. Crime is down to pre-Covid rates, among the lowest levels since the 1960's. I don't know why so many Americans believe crime is rising - it simply is not. As for law and order, Red states have the highest crime rates, particularly gun and violent crimes, not Blue states.

reenjoe,
While it’s true that the U.S. has a high GDP, it doesn’t reflect the real struggles Americans are facing due to inflation, which remains high under Biden’s administration, affecting daily expenses like groceries and housing. Despite global trends, inflation in the U.S. has been exacerbated by excessive spending and poor policy decisions that expanded the money supply.
Regarding the border, while Democrats highlight bipartisan efforts, they often include provisions that would offer pathways to citizenship or legalization for illegal aliens, which effectively encourages more illegal immigration. Republicans argue that stronger border enforcement and stopping illegal crossings should come first, unlike Democrats who favor legalization policies that attract more illegal aliens. The failed border bill supported by Harris reflects Democrats’ leniency on immigration, prioritizing pathways to legalization rather than tough enforcement.
On crime, it’s true that crime rates have fluctuated, but some of the highest violent crime rates are seen in Democratic-run cities and states. Crime data can vary, but the perception of rising crime is grounded in reality in many urban areas where liberal policies like defunding the police have weakened law enforcement.
