Workers at Amy’s Kitchen, one of the country’s top producers of vegetarian and organic canned food goods, have filed a complaint with the California Division Occupational Safety alleging poor working conditions and burdensome production demands.
The Jan. 20 complaint followed an investigation by NBC News that cited Amy’s workers as alleging that the Santa Rosa-based company’s managers are relentless and unyielding, such that they are not given time for bathroom or water breaks. One worker told the network that production-line employees are expected to assemble more than 25,000 plates of food in the course of an eight-hour shift.
