As we continue to witness more primary election victories of young progressive Democrats, one could not ask for a better song title than The Who’s 1966 hit “The Kids Are Alright” to symbolize the hopefulness of this phenomenon.
For those of us who were active in the anti-Vietnam War movement, both the song title and year of release would likely have struck a chord. My anti-war activities began a year later in 1967 when I entered my freshman year at SUNY Stony Brook. As are the young Dem Congressional candidates who will stand for election this year; or the triumphant young progressive NY State legislators elected two years ago, we were looked upon then as interlopers who did not know how “things were supposed to be done."
