A Trump-Cuomo coalition?

Posted

To the editor:

Reportedly, President Donald Trump contacted Andrew Cuomo to offer his support for the former governor in the upcoming NYC race for mayor. Trump has said publicly that Zorhan Mamdani’s election would be a disaster for the city and that Cuomo should stay in the race. If Cuomo doesn’t forcefully reject Trump’s support, that would probably guarantee Mamdani’s victory by an even greater margin.

We know Trump also supports Eric Adams, to whom he has given a pardon “without prejudice” for federal bribery, conspiracy and campaign finance charges. “Without prejudice" allows Adams to be prosecuted under some circumstances (like defying Trump?).

The NYC voters will not elect any candidate who doesn’t condemn Trump. Mamdani is running his mayoral campaign against Trump, whom he says is New Yorkers' most powerful enemy.  This is a strategy that will definitely make Mamdani our next mayor.

Your assertion that if Trump endorses Cuomo in the New York City mayoral race, opposing Mamdani, Mamdani’s anti-Trump campaign strategy is likely to ensure his victory is a sound supposition, but it lacks empirical evidence in reality. I will refrain from further commentary on this subject until I have more concrete information.

Under the current circumstances, Governor Cuomo’s position is precarious, and Mamdani stands tall. Amidst this backdrop, Curtis Sliwa is in a state of disbelief, as disgruntled voters will be casting their ballots for mayoral candidates, whom they laud and mock. From a high voter turnout, a candidate will emerge with a shaky and unsteady demeanor. Walking from City Hall to Gracie Mansion, he pauses before a place of worship and falls to his knees, in silent prayer, asking his Creator to lead him to the realm where hope and daydreams dwell.
