To the editor:
When Donald Trump was asked by real estate scion Harrison LeFrak about how he planned to take back the narrative from Democrats and paint himself as a positive option for America’s future, The New York Times reported that Trump said: “I am who I am.”
Is Trump trying to be Popeye? No, Trump is no sailor or any kind of military man. He received a half-dozen draft deferments and finally got a doctor (his father must have set this up) to say he had bone spurs to dodge the draft. Now he never hesitates to ridicule those who served in the military (he calls them “suckers”), and recently said the Medal of Honor was overrated since most of those who received this highest honor were all shot up or dead. He didn’t respect John McCain as a hero because he was captured.
Trump is like the mafia cowards who get others to do their dirty work, and he never fights a fair fight, even in court. He’s nothing but a punk who wants to be president. He encourages his acolytes to threaten and intimidate his opponents, and he doesn’t care who gets hurt or killed. Did Trump ever say he had any regrets or sympathy for the police officers who died as a direct or indirect result of the January 6 riot he led from a safe distance?
No, because for Trump the real heroes are those insurrectionists and traitors who attacked the Capitol to hang Mike Pence and kill Nancy Pelosi, many of them now in prison.
Why are they heroes? Just because they do Trump’s criminal bidding, nothing else.
When Trump says, “I am who I am,” he means he won’t change, and morality and respect for the law will never determine his actions.
