A betrayal

To the editor:

New York City retirees have been betrayed by the current and former NYC Mayors and the MLC. We are being forced to accept a Medicare Advantage Plan or begin to pay $191 monthly fee to remain in Medicare. The city lost in court to us and will seemingly lose their appeal. Now they are lobbying City Council members to sponsor a vote to change Admin. Code 12-126 to force us to accept an inferior health-care plan.

New threats to scrap everything is being made since the city believes they will lose their appeal. We worked and paid for the Medicare we now have but the city wants to renege on their commitment. Who will stand up to this Goliath and help us? The city lawyers know all the loopholes and have no regard for senior health care.

Just like Governor Andrew Cuomo placed Covid patients in senior health-care facilities and seniors died, we are being denied the good health care we now enjoy and worked for. Next we will die from the for-profit and private Advantage Care corporations who only care about profits and not the individual. Who will stand up for us?

First of all where do they come up with $191? Shouldn’t that figure be negotiable? They can also not reimburse retirees for their Medicare. Again, like private industry. I’m sure the city will also save money that way. Just another option to put on the table.
