School cleaners and handypersons with Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ have ratified a contract agreement that will provide them with a 10-percent pension boost, their first retirement benefit increase since 2018.
The cleaners and handypersons have been demanding that New York City School Support Services, which contracts with the city public school system, agree to a deal that includes increases in their pension benefits. The workers, who earn prevailing wages and supplemental benefits, called on the contractor to reallocate a larger portion of the prevailing wage supplemental benefits funds to their pensions.
