To the Editor: It is time to change the United Federation of Teachers leadership if it won't stand against systemic racism and oppression.
The recent wave of protests against racism across the country and around the world was a breath of fresh air, both figuratively and literally, after months of isolation and quarantine due to COVID-19. People across all walks of life are ready to proclaim "Black Lives Matter." The social-justice caucus of the UFT called the Movement of Rank and File Educators (MORE) organized a rally with parents and community advocates June 6 in front of union headquarters to demand an anti-racist stance to dismantle systemic racism in public education.
