To the Editor: The labels politicians give themselves does not necessarily describe their actual policies. Mayor Bill de Blasio can falsely claim that closing Rikers Island and putting the carriage horses out of business is good for criminal justice reform and animal rights. But the beneficiaries are the real-estate interests that donated to the Mayor and are looking to use the land on Rikers and where the horse stables are for their projects.
