Carranza Goes for Green

To the Editor: When former Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza abruptly ejected himself from his position, he gave as his reason that he needed time to mourn the COVID-19 losses that had personally touched him. It is nobody's business to judge the quality of his lamentation, but even if his eyes are not dry, he appears to have quickly landed on his feet.

He landed a lucrative job with a private ed-tech company that profited from its relationship with the Department of Education while Carranza was at its helm. This sort of opportunism has become a pattern among people whose high positions almost cry out for questionable future moves. Such pivoting is an essential building block of ambition these days, and hardly anyone wants to care.
