To the Editor: Let me see if I understand Mayor Bill de Blasio's budget strategy with regard to the New York Police Department. He said that with the budget cuts to the NYPD, there will be 2,000 fewer police officers, down from 38,000 to 36,000. There will be a big reduction in overtime for cops.
Shootings in the city have increased 127% over last year.
