To the Editor: It would appear that a new face of the President of the Teachers Union for Education Secretary will follow a tradition of a candidate with no permanent experience in teaching, administration or academia.

Parents are going crazy with the plan by the Mayor, with the consent of the United Federation of Teachers, to close down in-person learning in schools based on an artificial construct of a 3-percent coronavirus positive testing level despite a proven high false-positive rate of COVID tests. The Nobel Prize-winner who created this PCR test reports that it cannot detect active viruses and should not be used, showing a 50-percent rate of false positives.

New York Teachers for Choice indicates that the union has an interest in bringing Silicon Valley into the classroom with remote impersonal digital learning.

While the current Secretary of Education deserves concern over her lack of educational experience and support for private schools, her idea to open up the schools along with the Catholic schools in the city has merit.
