Andrew Cuomo’s declaration, after stating that his “instinct” was to battle an attempt to impeach him because “I believe it is politically motivated,” that he would instead resign so that state government “could get back to governing,” had a whiff of Sydney Carton’s decision in “A Tale of Two Cities” to redeem his misused life by going to the guillotine in place of the husband of the woman he loved.
Certainly it brought to mind Mr. Carton’s remark, “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done.”
