The way Rudy Giuliani laced into Bill de Blasio Sept. 16 as "the worst Mayor in the history of New York City," you'd never suspect that on Sept. 10, 2001, he had worn out his welcome to such a degree that most residents couldn't wait for his second term to end.
He redeemed himself with his coolness in a crisis on 9/11 and the days that followed. But then he started talking about extending his term for a few months, and people realized that the less-admirable part of himself hadn't been banished by his moment of grace.
