Perspective on the Protests

There are few police-union officials who would want the Rev. Al Sharpton to testify on their behalf, but something he said during the protests that were triggered by the death of George Floyd lends perspective to their claims of being unjustly maligned in the Department of Investigation report on cops' conduct.

Speaking on MSNBC months ago about the violence by protesters that marred some rallies, he said when he was the city's foremost practitioner of taking it to the streets, he made clear to his followers that he didn't want them acting up and blurring the point they were out there to make. Anyone who couldn't understand that, he said, would be invited to leave.
