Don’t Parole Bottom

Anthony Bottom, one of three members of the Black Liberation Army who were convicted in the 1971 murders of Police Officers Waverly Jones and Joseph Piagentini, will shortly come up for parole for the 12th time. He should be no more successful this time than for his previous 11 appearances before a state Parole Board.

A state panel last year inexplicably pardoned one of the other killers, Herman Bell. (The third man convicted, Albert Washington, died while still imprisoned.) Mr. Bell admitted culpability late in life but still didn’t deserve to be released. Mr. Bottom, who now calls himself Jalil Abdul Muntaqim, has never acknowledged his guilt.
