Not that surprisingly, the Trump Administration is trying to impose standards for citizenship in a manner that smacks of country clubs seeking to exclude those they deem undesirable based on criteria that are arbitrary and prejudicial.
If the rules survive the multiple court challenges they have already triggered, they would bar from citizenship people who are already living in the U.S. legally if they receive any of a variety of forms of government assistance, whether it’s Medicaid or a housing subsidy, on the grounds that this makes them likely to become a “public charge.”
