Compression in a New Light

There have been three interesting and related developments over the past couple of weeks in the hot war pitting the police unions against Mayor de Blasio and the City Council that piqued our interest as a kind of commentary as to why the diaphragm-compression aspect of the new chokehold law has become a quagmire.

First, the New York Times, which had apparently been too busy compiling video of cops allegedly abusing protesters—relying on a reel that somehow did not include protesters throwing projectiles at officers or torching or firebombing their vehicles—a couple of weeks ago belatedly produced a story on community reaction to the fervent drive to defund the police.
