Young Tapped by Regents as State's First African-American Chancellor

The state Board of Regents has elected veteran educator Lester Young Jr. as the first black Chancellor in the board’s 300-year history, the state Education Department announced Jan. 11.

The position had been open since August, when former Chancellor Betty Rosa resigned to become the state Education Department’s Interim Commissioner after Shannon Tahoe stepped down.
